The Puritans

The Puritans, more commonly known as the pilgrims, were a group of people in the 1620’s who had strict beliefs about religion. They believed that God had wrath towards people, except for those chosen few. The belief was that God saves only those he wishes and everyone else is going to hell. This belief was because of their idea that everyone was a descendant of Adam and Eve. Since Adam and Eve were sinful, everyone else was born sinful as well. They also believed that Jesus died only for a chosen few and not everyone. Another belief they had is that God’s grace is feely given and that it can’t be earned. The Puritans had Saints whom had been “elected” by God and they could take God’s word and interpret it any way they wanted to. No one was to against their interpretation because they were Saints and since they were chosen by God, they could not be wrong.
